Motorbike Claims: The Statistics
Out of all vehicle registrations in the UK, 3.4% of these were motorbikes in 2014 and motorbikes make up just 1% of total road traffic.
Many people are attracted to motorbikes due to the speed and ease of avoiding traffic jams but unfortunately, it is one of the most dangerous ways to navigate Britain’s roads with users 38 times more likely to be killed in an accident than car occupants according to the DVLA, and they make up 19% of all road accidents.
Motorbike accident: The consequences
Unfortunately, injuries sustained in a motorbike accident are likely to be far more serious than injuries sustained in a car accident. Such injuries can range from minor abrasions to orthopaedic injuries to spinal cord injuries to death.
Each of these different types of injury will have different levels of compensation which can be awarded based on specific guidelines laid down by the Judicial College.
The category an accident falls into or whereabouts within the category can hinge on the medical evidence and all the factors involved, for instance:
- the severity of the injury;
- the intensity of the pain experienced; and
- the consistency of symptoms;
