Make a Will Month – St Gemmas Hospice

by | Oct 6, 2022 | Blog Posts, Wills

We are proud to be working with St Gemma’s Hospice this October for their Make a Will Month. St Gemma’s Hospice is a Leeds-based charity providing care and support for those who are local with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. The Hospice itself is located in Moortown, just down the road from our north Leeds office.

Throughout October we will be providing our will-writing services to people who arrange an appointment through the scheme. If you make an appointment in October, quoting ‘St Gemma’s Make a will month’, we will waive our fees in return for a donation to St Gemma’s Hospice.

Why should you make a will?

A will ensures that any wishes you have are made known after your death.

By making a will you can:

  • Appoint people to deal with your estate after your death
  • Choose people or charities who will receive your estate
  • Appoint guardians to look after any young children and appoint trustees to look after your child’s inheritance
  • Plan to reduce your estate’s Inheritance Tax liability
  • Help avoid disputes with your assets after your death.

If you do not have a will in place, you will die ‘intestate’. This means your estate will be shared out and distribute under the ‘Rules of Intestacy’. The Rules will then determine who is entitled to inherit and benefit from your estate. This means that your wishes or intentions may not be taken into consideration after your death.
