Leeds lawyers, Levi Solicitors, have recently advised homelessness charity, Homeless Street Angels, on a deal that has seen the charity take on the lease of a commercial premises in Sheepscar. The property, now named Abi House in memory of the founders’ sister, will be developed to become a support centre from which the charity can provide increased services to its users.
Jeffrey Myers, a partner in Levi’s Commercial Property team, assisted Homeless Street Angels on the purchase of the property. The team has extensive experience in commercial leases and regularly acts for charities.
Jeffrey commented, “We are delighted to have supported Homeless Street Angels on this transaction. Once they have done up the property, it will allow them to increase the services they already provide to homeless people in Leeds. I’m proud to have been involved with the project.”
| Homeless Street Angels
Based in Leeds, Homeless Street Angels is run by sisters Becky and Shelley Joyce. Starting in 2017, they offer support and assistance to homeless people in Leeds, running a weekly outreach and assisting people in finding homes. The sisters have been working towards purchasing a property from which to offer further services, so this is a pivotal moment for the charity.
Shelley Joyce, co-founder of Homeless Street Angels, added:
“Myself and twin sister Becky Joyce began feeding the homeless in 2016 and since the day we started we have wanted to make things easier for the clients we support. We have built a fantastic team of volunteers who help us every Thursday night feeding the guys on the streets. We now also provide help with fuel vouchers, dentistry, furniture, assistance with housing applications, food parcels and so much more.
When we lost our sister in 2017, we threw everything we had at the charity with our end goal of opening a support centre named after Abi. For the last seven years we have been working tirelessly to raise enough funds to allow our charity to grow. We have jumped out of a plane, done the world’s longest zipwire, done wing walking, we even made a Christmas single last year.
Our dream has now become a reality and we would like to thank Levi’s for all their continued support in helping to make this happen. We are working every hour we possibly can in renovating the new support centre and we hope to open it shortly.”
Levi Solicitors has been supporting Homeless Street Angels as one of its 90th anniversary charities of the year, fundraising, donating items and volunteering. They look forward to continuing to support the charity in this exciting new chapter.
