What is a service charge?

A service charge is a payment made by a leaseholder (e.g. a flat owner) to their landlord (the building owner). It goes towards the costs that the landlord incurs in providing services to the property. This is payable in addition to the usual rent. A lease will usually set out what the service charge is there to take care of.

Service charge demands

Landlords and managing agents must be clear and transparent when they demand service charges. If they are not, a leaseholder may seek to challenge the charges. We advise landlords on service charge demands. We can also assist leaseholders who are concerned about the service charge demands they have received.
